hastings open 2022

"Hastings Open" celebrates the diversity of artistic talent in Hastings and beyond. It features painting, sculpture, drawing, print, photography, digital, and mixed media artworks. With the biannual Open, the museum aspires to support contemporary artists' careers and share their work with the local community.

This photo, taken at The Barbican Centre in London, has been selected by the Hastings Museum's panel of judges and is currently on display at the Hasting Museum & Art Gallery until the 15th of January 2023.

"Together Alone"

With this photo, I wanted to comment on relationships and individuality using a simple visual composition. On one side, the scene consists of the two subjects sitting close together and shows a moment of pause in which there almost seems to be an absence of interaction. On the other side, the projected shadow depicts only a single distinct figure, creating tension between the two. A fraction of a moment that visually expresses, how today our inner personality has become more dominant than ever in human interactions.
